A Recipe for a Great Life

Serves: everyone A lifetime

The story

Half-invented, fully believed. This one doesn't really have a pan or a timer — just a few things worth keeping close, in no particular order.

Ingredients

  • A warm batch of samosas, still crackling
  • 1 well-worn copy of The Lord of the Rings (extended edition, obviously)
  • A working theory of economics — enough to know what's scarce and what isn't
  • 1 enormous plate of biryani, meant for sharing
  • Potato chips, family-size bag, bottomless refills

Steps

  1. Start with the samosasServe them hot, before anyone's properly sat down. The best conversations happen standing up, plate in hand.
  2. Get lost in Middle-earthRead it slow enough to miss your stop. Learn that the longest journeys are better with company, and that the smallest people change the biggest things.
  3. Season with a little economicsUnderstand supply, demand, and opportunity cost — then spend your time like it's the scarcest resource you have, because it is.
  4. Bring out the biryaniOne big plate, several spoons, no assigned portions. Let everyone fight over the same piece of potato.
  5. Keep the chips comingNever let the bowl go empty. Refill it before anyone has to ask.
  6. Serve indefinitelyThere's no finishing step — just keep making it, with the same people, for as long as you can.
